1. En la iglesia, apagaron las luces y encendieron las velas = In the church, they turned off/switched off the lights and lit the candles
2. Mi fiesta de cumpleaños estuvo llena de alegría = My birthday party was full of joy/happiness
3. En el siglo pasado, hubo muchos cambios políticos = In the last century, there were many political changes
4. La corrida siempre termina con la muerte del toro = The bullfight always ends/finishes with the death of the bull/with the bull dying
5. Me sorprendió la cantidad de gente que vino a la fiesta = The amount/number of people who came to the fiesta/party surprised me / I was surprised by the amount/number of people who came to the fiesta/party
   Recuerda que “vino” = un verbo / un nombre. “El vino” (nombre) = wine. “Él vino / Ella vino” (verbo) = he/she came. En este contexto, “la cantidad de gente que vino…” = the amount of people who came…”. Fíjate que “gente” se refiere a un grupo de personas, pero usa un verbo en singular, no en plural.
